Centre for Staff Training and Development (CSTD)

INTRODUCTION

The University has set up the Centre for Staff Training and Development (CSTD) in April 1993 to provide in-service training to all its full-time and part-time employees.
Centre for Staff Training and Development (CSTD) is established in April 1993, as a Human Resource Development and Training Division of the Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University. The primary objective of the CSTD is to assess the training needs of different categories of employees both teaching and non-teaching and to organise in-house training programmes to enable them to keep pace with the emerging developments. The broad vision of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University is creating an egalitarian society by using modern technologies in teaching-learning processes as well as in administrative and support services. To realise this vision the University has adapted staff training and staff development as one of the key strategies in its mission. Staff development refers to all the policies, practices, and procedures used to develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies of staff to improve the effectiveness and efficiency both of the individual and the University. The training of staff in distance education institutions is viewed as much more significant because of the particularity of the setting. Continues learning is necessary in order to adapt to new situations, skills, technologies and, in a larger perspective, for the future growth and well-being of the organisation. . Keeping in view of changing training needs the CSTD is designing new programmes . Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University recognises that a strategic, professional approach to staff development helps the University to attract and retain high-calibre staff with the skills and competencies necessary to deliver its objectives. In its 40th anniversary of the University, CSTD expanded its scope.

OBJECTIVES

The main objective of the CSTD is to provide training to the e staff working in the University with a framework that supports and encourages the development of all staff in line both teaching and non-teaching by updating their knowledge, skills and performance keeping in view of the Objectives of the Centre.

The University has assigned the following objectives to the CSTD.
  • To assess the training needs of different categories of distance educators and distance education functionaries;
  • to respond to the needs of dynamic systems of education and development using information and communication technologies;To arrange for skill development and application of newly emerging teaching and learning technologies;
  • To provide opportunities for professional growth through wide exposure to development and innovation;
  • To plan and organise a variety of training activities;
  • To develop training materials/ manuals; and
  • To collaborate with agencies having similar objectives.
